RFTF 2.0 - THE REMIX TASTER - DAY 2
Ode To Myself - Arthur Baker Remix
“It’s rare when a remix blends so seamlessly with an original. Arthur Baker entwines his own electronically driven sound with Irene’s stunning vocals – creating a sound that is unmistakably unique….” – Electronic Groove
Legendary DJ and producer, Arthur Baker has worked with so many incredible musicians during his 40 year career, artists such as Bob Dylan, New Order, Fleetwood Mac and Cyndi Lauper, so let’s say that we’re more than a little chuffed that we got the chance to collaborate with him on this album!
I met Arthur more than a decade ago when we were both living in Westbourne Grove in London and realised we shared a love for house music, Italian food and a good party! We have been friends ever since and I’m super happy we finally got to collaborate and so proud to share his remix of ‘Ode To Myself’…he even kept the vocal jazz improvisation at the beginning of the track, which should you tell you just what a sound guy he is!
The video below is an edited version of a Facebook Live interview I did with him a few weeks ago, and it is pure Arthur: raw to the bone, straight to the point with a huge does of his infinite charm!

ODE TO MYSELF (ORIGINAL VERSION)
COLLABORATOR'S INSPO
“…Irene has been a friend for years and to finally collaborate. I was inspired by her voice and the melody and by the bands playing, which I used in the remix. I love cutting and pasting and the track provided me with plenty of ammunition and inspiration.”

Ode To Myself - LYRICS
Saying things that I’m not supposed to say
Take me down ‘cause it’s better that way
While people talk and stare
For you, you were more than I could bear
Feeling things that I’m not supposed to feel
Ain’t it funny how some things take much longer to heal
And so I’ll move with caution and stealth
And this is an Ode To Myself
But when I flick the light at night I see you
Nobody, never no, could ever understand a me so true
And when I ask myself aloud what willed our fate
For you were an honest mistake
You’re doing fine then things blow up in your face
I’m falling now but at a different pace
I never meant for all of this I swear
But this, this is more than I could care
Didn’t think we’d be back here again
Is it better now than it was back then
And so I’ll move with caution and stealth
And this is an Ode To Myself
But when I flick the light at night I see you
Nobody, never no, could ever understand a me so true
And when I ask myself aloud what willed our fate
For you were an honest mistake
