RFTF 2.0 - THE REMIX TASTER - DAY 6
"This Bird Has Flown" (Remix)
I wrote this song when I was pondering a difficult break-up and how that painful experience had both negative and positive impacts in my life. It talks about all the different shades of the end of a relationship and how you don’t necessarily stop desiring the other person even though you know they’re no good for you.
I also spent a lot of time by myself during that period, which was sometimes a blessing, as I got to rediscover all the things that excited me, and sometimes a curse, as the dreaded post-break up loneliness would creep in.
This reimagining puts the vocals at the centre of the production, creating a bed of drums and bass that the melody bounces off from. It was produced by our awesome bass player, Richard Sadler, who also plays all the instruments you hear in the recording! He wanted to try and let the voice dictate the rhythm of the other instruments and this inspired him to do the remix….and also partly because I told him to do it! Bossiness goes a long way in a band….! 😜
ORIGINAL VERSION
This Bird Has Flown - LYRICS
This bird has flown
and nothing I own
seems to fit this skin
or this place I’m in
but it feels so wonderful
like a half-forgotten tune
over too soon
And I sit and watch
as the shadows drop
as the night creeps in
dirty thoughts of him
but it feels so beautiful
oh this mood that I’m in
from deep within
This fall from grace
at his steady pace
and the quiet swords
of a kind strangers’ words
but it feels so magical
to be feeling alive
so deep inside
This bird has flown
This bird has flown
This bird has flown
